Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Plansmith uses, why we use it, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 27 August 2026

Who is responsible for your information?

Plansmith is the data controller for the personal information described here.

For a privacy question or request, email hello@plansmith.app.

What we collect

Account information

  • Your email address and authentication identifier.
  • Your user preferences, such as measurement units.
  • Your account status, including whether your account is active and whether you have Plansmith Pro.
  • If you later choose social sign-in, the provider and account details that provider shares with us.

Passwords are handled by our authentication provider. Plansmith does not see or store your plain-text password.

Saved projects

We store the project name and type, measurement units, dimensions and configuration needed to save and reopen your plan.

Billing information

We store the customer and subscription identifiers supplied by our payment processor, the price used, subscription status, renewal date and cancellation state.

Our payment processor collects and processes your card or other payment details. Plansmith does not store your full card number.

Contact messages

If you use a contact form, we collect the name, email address and message you provide so we can respond to you.

Technical and optional analytics information

Our hosting and security services process technical request information such as your IP address, browser and request records so the site can be delivered and protected.

If you accept analytics, our analytics provider records pages visited, referrer, browser, operating system, device type, approximate country and anonymous session information. Plansmith also records a small number of product events, such as project searches and upgrade-button clicks.

Why we use it

  • To provide Plansmith: create and secure accounts, save projects, restore preferences and manage subscriptions. This is necessary to provide the service you ask for.
  • To respond to you: receive and reply to messages you send through our contact forms.
  • To run and protect the service: prevent misuse, diagnose faults and keep reliable records. We do this for our legitimate interests in operating a secure service.
  • For optional analytics: understand which projects and features are useful. We do this only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To meet legal obligations: keep records required for tax, accounting, disputes or lawful requests.

Emails

We may send service emails needed to operate your account, such as password resets, security messages and important billing or subscription updates.

Plansmith may send newsletters, product updates or other marketing emails if you choose to receive them. You can manage your email subscriptions from your user profile and unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time. Changing these preferences will not stop essential account or billing messages.

Who we share information with

We share only what is needed with services that help us operate Plansmith:

  • An authentication and database provider for sign-in, saved data and server functions.
  • A payment processor for checkout, payments, subscriptions, billing records and fraud prevention.
  • A hosting and security provider for website delivery and protection.
  • An analytics provider for privacy-focused analytics, only after you accept analytics.
  • A social-login provider, only when you choose that sign-in method and it has been enabled.
  • An email delivery provider for messages you choose to send through our contact forms.
  • An email provider for newsletters or product updates, only if you choose to receive them.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect Plansmith or its users, or as part of a sale or transfer of the service. We do not sell your personal information.

International processing

Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where data protection law requires it, we rely on an approved transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy regulation or approved contractual safeguards.

How long we keep it

  • Account and saved-project information is kept while your account is active.
  • Deactivating your account blocks access but is not the same as asking us to erase your information. You can request erasure by email.
  • Billing and transaction records may be kept for as long as needed for tax, accounting, fraud prevention or disputes.
  • Contact messages are kept only for as long as needed to respond and maintain appropriate support records.
  • Analytics information is kept according to our analytics retention settings. Your analytics choice stays in your browser until you change it or clear browser storage.
  • Information in backups is removed through the normal backup rotation after it is deleted from the live service.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your information, and to object to some uses of it.

You can change optional analytics at any time using Analytics preferences in the footer. You can deactivate your account from account settings and contact us if you want to request full deletion.

We may need to confirm your identity before completing a request. Some information may need to be kept where the law allows or requires it.

UK users can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Cookies and browser storage

Plansmith uses necessary browser storage and optional analytics. The cookie and storage policy explains each category and how to change your choice.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when Plansmith's data use changes. If a change materially affects your rights or how we use account information, we will provide a clear notice in the service or by email.
